Currently, Soulistic Playhouse has teamed with Jordan Area Community Council to bring The Remix. This 8-week workshop provides an opportunity for Jordan area youth, ages 14 – 18 to be engaged through the development of their interest in theatre, from concept to performance.

This summer’s production will be of the remix – a combined retelling of two pivotal plays in American literature -- Ntozake Shange's for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf and Keith Antar Mason's for black boys who have considered homicide when the streets were too much. The play, itself a remix, offers a twist that speaks to today’s youth, by featuring an updated musical score, hip-hop beats to connect the aesthetics of the hip-hop and spoken word theatre and movement.

the remix represents what Soulistic is -- building theatre for the soul -- and presents a necessary and wonderful opportunity to bring youth and communities together for real and positive change.

American dancer and choreographer Agnes De Mille once said, “When you perform…you are out of yourself – larger and more potent, more beautiful. You are more heroic. This is power. This is glory on earth. And it is yours, nightly.”

The remix provides a space for youth to experience, and be, just that. Beautiful. Heroic. Potent. Powerful.
